Resumen: In most health professions, there is a clear progression from beginning practitioner to seasoned expert. While such a progression may exist, no clear model of advanced practice dietetics in medical nutrition therapy has been identified. This thougth-provoking text explores how members of this profession can create a clear pathway from entry level to advanced practice through a defined educational plan with appropriate coursework and practice experiences, a credentialing mechanism that certifies expertise, and a well-defined set of skills that have value in the marketplace.
Instead of a checklist approach to achieving advanced practice status, this book contains a collection of ideas as a single advanced practice theory. This book is not a recipe for advanced practice, but an explanation of ideas about what an advanced practice dietitian does differently from a specialist or basic level practitioner. The chapters in this text define and describe the knowledge, skill, education, and training of the advanced practice dietitian to ensure that these professionals will achieve credibility and advancement in the workplace.
