500 ## - GENERAL NOTE
General note Resumen: The analysis of bloodstain patterns is commonplace in violent crime investigations. Blood-stain patterns can provide a great deal of information to the investigator and crime scene reconstructionist, yet confusion, ambiguity and a certain amount of controversy prevent full acceptance by the scientific and legal communities.
All present 'blood spatter' data were compiled in the 1920s, before non-Newtonian fluid behaviour was described. Medical and clinical research, which receives more adequate funding than forensics research, is providing a growing body of information on blood composition and behavior. Those applying bloodstain pattern analysis have, until now, ignored this reference material in favour of historical studies.
As early as 1951, Paul Kirk promoted bloodstain pattern interpretation as a scientific discipline. Since his death in 1970, use of bloodstain pattern interpretation has increased markedly, yet the technical foundations have changed little. Information unknown during Dr Kirk's studies has yet to be incorporated into the literatura on blood distribution behavior. This book aims to do that - with the benefit of the author's 25 years of research into foren- sic bloodstain interpretation.
Blood Dynamics will fundamentally change the way in which bloodstains are interpreted and will be required reading by:
Law enforcers
Crime scene technicians
Accident investigators
Forensic scientists
Lawyers and judges
Crime writers and the media
